My Philosophy
"Do not fear failure but rather fear not trying."
-Roy T. Bennett
In a simple word, it is mean that trying is a part of failing. If I am afraid to fail then I am afraid to try. It is also a part of succeeding, but if I do not try, I will neither fail nor succeed.
Through my experience as a strategic communication student, I feel that I learn best when I try and overcome my fear. I believe that I can attempt more when I do not limit myself. Limiting myself may feel safe but it prevents me from being present in my experiences. I need experiences and opportunities to critically think in order to find meaning and purpose, and truly learn the content. I need to find my own learning process and be provided with opportunities to work with and learn from my peers. I am learning by exploring myself, communicating, and applying new concepts and ideas to my prior knowledge. Instead of afraid of failure, I learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable. I am going to embrace failure, anticipate and welcome it.
Through this program, I believe that I am capable of learning even though people do not learn at the same rate, but with trying, it is possible. It is okay to fail, as long as I am trying. It is not the failure that matters, it is the growth. Right or wrong, I will always grow from my experiences in life. Preventing failure will not lead to success but trial and error certainly will. I will learn and I will grow.
I believe it will help me to enhance my future career and empower me personally. Challenging myself to unlearn the traditional restrictive concept of failure and encourage my response to a new experience to be "I can do this", rather than "what if I don't succeed".
No matter how hard it is to begin to live life without the fears and anxiety of the future, I will try my best. I do not have to be confident. Just do it and eventually, the confidence will follow.
